I allow myself to be

My personal chant on honoring myself and allowing, but not avoiding, loving, but not fearing.

I allow myself to feel awkward.

I allow myself to eat meat.

I allow myself to have a white line on my back from suntanning in the swimming suit

and, unless I feel like it, I don’t have to be fit

anymore.

I allow myself to cancel a meeting,

to start a war, but only inside,

and then cry, cry for days.

I allow myself to sleep in.

I allow myself to scream when I am in pain.

I even allow myself to faint (just to experience something new),

and eat ice cream whenever I feel like it.

I allow myself to be rude,

to change my mood when it feels right,

to wake up anxious, to wake up happy,

to smile at strangers,

to say things people do not approve of.

I allow myself to be naked,

I allow myself to tell you I love you,

to be real, and throw away all the make up.

I allow myself to stand in the balcony and breathe without smoking.

I allow myself to be who I want to be

and, most importantly, to be who I am

I allow myself to sneak in the fridge in the middle of the night

and eat pickled zucchinis.

I can now do everything that feels right.

I do not allow myself to be greedy and needy,

I do not allow myself to be fake

anymore.

I am here, I am now

I am always, I am never.

And everything that is growth and light and love

I allow myself.

  1. Wow, I love this! So many people try to be “perfect,” whatever that means, all the time and mold themselves to others’ expectations. You’re right – we are allowed to be uniquely and truly ourselves and don’t have to apologize for it. Thank you for posting this!
